Static Thrust Test
A static thrust benchmark to gather thrust data with different propellers in order to select the propeller with the best performance.
The test is designed to gather thrust data for different propellers for the motor, to choose the most suitable one. This is important so that Manta has the correct propeller to generate sufficient thrust that is compliant with the 0.5 thrust-to-weight ratio for this aircraft.
The motor, ESC and battery are attached to the thrust stand in a test cage enclosure. The thrust is then measured at different throttle signals. The propellers are switched and the test is repeated.
It was determined the best propeller for use in subsequent tests moving forwards is the 14”x7” propeller as it provided the highest thrust-to-current ratio and also was able to provide the required thrust. This propeller may be re-evaluated in future tests.
