Blocked Propeller Test
A test to measure the change in thrust performance for a motor when a blockage is created some distance from the inlet
This test mimics the effect of having the inlet to the propeller slightly obscured by the fuselage. This allows us to test how the performance changes as the distance to the blockage is varied and to see if any performance decrease is acceptable.
A panel of wood is attached to the test stand cage in order to obscure flow to half the propeller. The thrust performance of the motor is then measured. This is then repeated with the distance between the propeller and blockage being decreased each thime.
The data indicates that there is a minimal change in the performance when compared to the freestream setup. Furthermore the decrease in thrust-to-current ratio as the distance from the blockage decreases gets less significant at higher ESC signals.
